Our New Exterior Lighting

Thank you Outdoor Lighting Perspectives for sponsoring today’s post, please read my disclosures.

We have been working on our home exterior for a few years and one of the final pieces is getting installed and I’m so excited to share it with you! May is National Home Improvement month, so it felt like the perfect time to enlist the help of some professionals for the job! The exterior lighting that we had at our house when we moved in left much to be desired and really lacked the curb appeal we were looking for.

Our exterior was so dark at night and as much as I love being on our porch and patio, I was scared to venture out past sunset with all the wildlife we have in our area. We worked with a local, professional, full-service outdoor lighting company called Outdoor Lighting Perspectives and they helped bring my vision to life! Keep on reading to learn all about how our outdoor lighting, landscape lighting, and market lights helped give our home some much-needed curb appeal!

Lighting Concerns

When I first reached out to Outdoor Lighting Perspectives, they immediately set up a complimentary design consultation so that we could walk around our property and discuss some of my biggest concerns with our existing outdoor lighting. First off was the issue of safety – the outside of our house and the staircase leading up to our front porch were both so dark. It posed a threat to our kids and parents alike and I was always so worried about someone tripping or falling on them.

The back of our house was also poorly lit and we have a lot of not-so-nice wildlife around here (i.e. alligators and snakes), so I definitely wanted to put some lighting in that area so we could enjoy the patio and pergola after dark. Our existing flood lights were inoperable and I didn’t want to risk myself or my husband trying to climb up a tall ladder to fix them. Lastly, we’ve recently done a ton of work on our home exterior and I really wanted to be able to show it off in the evenings – I’m so proud of how far it has come!

After talking to Outdoor Lighting Perspectives about our concerns, they recommended the following solutions using their premium fixtures and custom designs. Everything we added has smart home technology and can be controlled via an app on our phones, making it super easy to adjust! The lights are also all low-voltage, making them very energy efficient and cost-effective in the long run.

  • Uplighting for our palms trees, crepe myrtles, oak tree, and front and back yards
  • Downlighting for our front and back deck steps
  • New flood lights for the front of our stairs
  • Replacing our existing flood lighting with integrated LED flood lighting
  • Commerical-grade permanent bistro lighting over the back patio, connecting to the oak tree
  • Uplighting and downlighting inside the patio and pergola to create ambience
  • Curb appeal lighting for the front of our home

Upgrading our lighting really helped our curb appeal and I’m so happy with the final result! Use the code AMY2 to get 2 free additional lights with the purchase of 12 lights or more at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives. (insert link)

Landscape Lighting

If you’ve followed me for awhile, you know how much I love gardening and plants! I’m obsessed with our coastal landscaping, specifically the palm and oak trees on our property, and really wanted to showcase them as best as we could with landscape lighting and uplighting. The Coastal Oak brand was inspired by the beautiful oak trees of the Lowcountry and it was important to me that these were all visible from the road so we made sure to include that in our plans.

We recently added jasmine and climbing roses to the pergola in our backyard and I wanted to light those up as well so we could enjoy them in the evenings. They also added some fun bistro lighting over the back patio to help create a cozy and welcoming ambience and I love the European-like vibes they bring to our space!

Installation Process

I truly cannot say enough good things about the entire process of working with Outdoor Lighting Perspectives. From initial inquiry to installation day to clean up, they were so professional, organized, and clean – plus they gave us so many amazing recommendations that we wouldn’t have otherwise thought about ourselves. The job was complete in one day and they were so respectful of our landscaping.

The yard was completely picked up at the end of the day and they even came back after dark to make sure everything was working properly. The kids and I had so much fun watching them hang the bistro lights! Outdoor Lighting Perspectives also offers ongoing service and maintenance with their Shine365 limited lifetime warranties, which will help keep our lighting looking as good as new for years to come!

Outdoor Lighting is INCREDIBLE

Outdoor lighting has come a long way in the last few years and there are so many cool features that I didn’t even know about until we started this process. All of our lights are “smart,” so I can easily access them from an app on my phone to turn them on or off and set everything on a timer. I love this feature for when we’re out of town!

The bistro lights in the oak tree off our back patio are seriously so dreamy – I think they might be my favorite part! It’s so nice to be able to enjoy our new landscaping in the evenings too. The gorgeous oak trees are one of the best things about the Lowcountry in my opinion and I really enjoy being able to see them all the time. My kids love that the lights on our back porch can change colors and I’m really loving these sconces we picked out. They blend perfectly with our coastal home and look gorgeous when they’re all lit up.

Exterior Lighting

I was a bit skeptical that outdoor lighting would make such a big impact on our home, but boy was I wrong. I’m so thrilled with how this project turned out and can’t wait to enjoy it for years to come. We had a friend over the first night the lights were installed and she couldn’t even believe it was the same house!

Another super fun feature, these color changing lights for the back porch. The kids are obsessed and we can’t wait to use the various colors for different holidays and parties!
