Vertical Board and Batten Wall Inspiration

I’m so excited to announce that I’m installing vertical board and batten in the shared kids’ bedroom. I have been going back and forth with this decision, to install board and batten or shiplap. I finally landed on vertical board and batten and I’m so excited to take you along with my journey and how I decide to install the accent wall.

What Are Board and Batten Walls?

The term “batten” refers to the strip of molding placed across the joint between boards. There are several different ways to achieve this look. Some homeowners opt for a cost-efficient method, where they rip pieces of MDF into smaller pieces for installation. Others use primed pine or regular pine trim pieces. I plan to use primed pine because we do not own a table saw and I also want to save time with this project.

I love how vertical board and batten adds texture to any wall. You will see it on the exterior of homes as well. It adds interest and height to an otherwise boring wall. I also love how it brings a coastal cottage vibe to any home.

This gorgeous board and batten wall is an accent wall in this bedroom. The upholstered headboard sits against the white wall, next to a wood bedside dresser and wall-mounted bedside light. #boardandbatten #verticalboardandbatten #boardandbattenwall #accentwall #coastalhome #coastalinteriors #coastaldecor #walltreatments #diywall #diyboardandbatten

Are you excited to follow along with this journey? I will be learning a few new skills while installing this accent wall. I have already purchased the lumber, now I get to figure out the math and start installing it this week! I’ll update the blog as I go and share the process with you. Have a wonderful weekend!
