From Trader Joe’s to Table: A Casual Friday Dinner

Welcome to my weekly update! Making everyday meals feel special—without spending a fortune.

After a week of busy schedules and quick dinners, I’ve started turning Fridays into something a little more intentional: welcome to Not So Fancy Fridays. It’s not about anything extravagant—it’s just taking what I already have (a grocery haul from Trader Joe’s, a simple rice bowl, even a $1 napkin from Amazon) and turning it into something lovely.

This week’s Friday dinner menu came straight from my latest Trader Joe’s trip, and I pulled together a simple but elevated dinner that you can easily recreate. Whether you’re cooking for your family, a date night in, or just yourself, I hope this inspires you to slow down and savor the small things.

  • Snap Pea Pods
  • Chili Onion Crunch
  • Coconut Aminos
  • Limes
  • Avocados

The Casual Friday Menu

Main: Steak & Jasmine Rice Asian Bowls with a sweet & spicy coconut-chili sauce

Dessert: Optional fresh mango or dark chocolate square to wind down the night

Steak & Jasmine Rice Asian Bowl Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb skirt steak
  • 1 packet Trader Joe’s jasmine rice
  • 1 cup green pea pods
  • 2 tbsp coconut aminos
  • 1 tbsp Chili Onion Crunch
  • 1 tsp sesame oil (optional)
  • ½ avocado, sliced
  • Chopped cilantro, green onions, sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Lime wedge
  • Sea salt & pepper

Instructions:

  1. Cook the steak: Season with salt and pepper. Sear in a hot pan for 2-3 minutes per side, then let rest and slice thinly.
  2. Sauté pea pods: In the same pan, toss pea pods in a drizzle of sesame oil or olive oil with a pinch of salt. Cook for 2-3 minutes until crisp-tender.
  3. Make the sauce: Mix coconut aminos with Chili Onion Crunch and a squeeze of lime.
  4. Warm the rice: Microwave TJ’s rice pack as directed.
  5. Assemble: In a bowl, layer rice, steak, pea pods, avocado, and drizzle with sauce. Garnish with cilantro, green onions, sesame seeds, and serve with lime wedge.

Styling Tips : Making It Feel Fancy

Even a simple meal feels more special with a few thoughtful touches. Here’s what I used:

Add a mini hydrangea bouquet, light a candle, and let the moment feel like a pause.
