Round End Tables

Over the years, I’ve gone through my fair share of end tables throughout different homes. I’ve had tables that match our coffee tables exactly and tables that simply coordinate with the rest of the furniture in the room. I think it can be fun to mix and match unique finds from places like thrift stores (you know how I love to thrift!), but sometimes you just need something quick! I’m here to share all my throughts on how to pick the perfect round end tables for your space that you’ll be sure to love for years to come.

Why I Love Round End Tables

If you’re shopping for your own home, you may have stumbled onto my blog looking for all the answers to your furniture dilemmas. Lucky for you, I’ve done my fair share of furniture shopping and have also had all the end table options in my living area, from round to rectangular to square. If you’re in the market for a new coffee table, be sure to check out my posts on round and rectangular coffee tables to really tie together your living room!

There are a lot of things to consider when choosing a shape for your end tables. Similarly to coffee tables, you want to consider the flow of the room and how you and your family use the space. While rectangular or square options can work in any room, I love how a round end table can soften a room. If you already have a rectangular coffee table with sharp corners, I think that round end tables can balance that out and break up the harsh angles that come with a rectangular coffee table and sofa or sectional.

As a mom of three young kids, I also love having round tables to lessen the chances of any major bumps or cuts. If you have tight quarters, round end tables are a great option because they can easily tuck next to furniture and don’t take up as much floor space. They can also fit in awkward spaces, like corners, better than their rectangular counterparts.

Rectangular end tables have their benefits too. They’re the most popular choice for people, making them easy to find in a wide variety of styles and sizes. Rectangular end tables also help direct the flow of a room that may feel otherwise unbalanced or awkward.

Round End Table Size

Height and width are the two biggest factors when choosing your perfect round end tables. Standard end tables are 18-24 inches, and the ideal height for you will depend largely on the height of the furniture they’re placed next to. It’s recommended to keep the height of your end table within 2 inches of the height of the arm of your sofa or chair.

When it comes to width, it really depends on what you plan on using your end table for. I find it best to look for a balance between functionality and aesthetics. Depending on the space, I like to have enough room on my end table for a lamp, a coaster, and possibly some simple decor like a stack of neutral books or a pretty accent piece.

Layout wise, I prefer round end tables to be used next to a single chair that might sit in a corner. I also think they can look great between two arm chairs in a sitting area. You might see these smaller end tables marketed as round accent tables or round side tables – just know that they all mean the same thing.

Styling a Round End Table

Round accent tables can be a bit difficult to decorate because of their size. I like to keep it pretty simple and always consider functionality when styling an end table. I always love incorporating a lamp and coaster so I have a place to read a book and sit my coffee.

Then, I like to add in some sort of decor whether it’s greenery, a picture frame, a candle, or a small stack of books. In design, the “rule of 3s” is important. Odd numbers always look better to the eye, so I like to choose one of the above items to sit alongside my coasters and lamp. Some of my favorite decorative pieces are these marble linksdecorative beads, or a nice local candle.

It’s important to make sure your end table and coffee table decor is cohesive with the rest of your space and styling. In my home, I have to make sure that my bookshelves and tables are styled similarly to make the spaces feel consistent.

My Favorite Round End Tables

There are so many gorgeous options right now when it comes to round end tables. I always love a wood option and while I usually go for a white or lighter wood tone, I’ve been loving these richer deep browns lately! If you have a more modern style, a metal and glass option is always beautiful and gold end tables can instantly make a room look chic. If you need something a bit more substantial in your room, drum end tables can be a good option as well. I’ve seen some gorgeous wicker and rattan options that would be perfect in a coastal home or beach house!

If you’re in need of a budget friendly option but don’t have time to thrift, I recommend checking out places like Ikea, Target, and Wayfair! My own square end tables are from Steven Shell Living, but I’ve rounded up my top picks below including some similar round looks. Let me know which one is your favorite!

Secondhand Round End Tables

You know how much I love to thrift, so I always recommend starting out at your local thrift stores or Facebook Marketplace, especially if you’re on a budget! I love that you can find something unique and transform it into the perfect piece for your own home.

If you search on Facebook Marketplace, I recommend widening your search to include towns a few hours away. Once you start entering key terms, like “end table,” “side table,” “serena and lily,” etc., Facebook will start making suggestions for online and secondhand options that might not have popped up originally.

DIY Round End Tables

If you’re feeling really creative, you can always make your own round end tables. I love a good DIY and I stumbled across several friends across the internet who have created the most beautiful round side tables all on their own! Justine Celina recreated a beautiful tree stump side table as a DIY. Isn’t it so cute?
