It’s official, I have found the bedroom dresser of my dreams! The Serena & Lily Driftway Chest is a simple, classically-shaped dresser, hand wrapped in gorgeous linen, and my favorite part is the color, it’s coastal blue! You know anything with “coastal” in the name has a special place in my heart and this light blue dresser is no exception.
Finding furniture that fits your bedroom and lifestyle is easy with tips found in this post. I’m helping you select a light blue dresser that is family-friendly, beautifully designed, and functional for storage. You will find the differences in a dresser and chest and which one is best for your furniture needs. Let’s discuss the perfect light blue furniture for your home!
What is the difference between a chest of drawers and a dresser? Both pieces of furniture have drawers and are typically used to store clothing and accessories. Typically, a dresser is short and wide and a chest of drawers is tall and not as wide. Often, you will find both in bedrooms, with dressers storing clothing and the chest of drawers storing other items. Also, you will see chests used for children’s rooms as dressers, because they’re compact. You will find the terms dresser and chest used interchangeably in this post.
Light Blue Bedroom Furniture
There are a few reasons why I was on the hunt for a new bedroom dresser. First, we have a neutral master bedroom with our white bedding and tan seagrass woven canopy bed. These sit on top of our vintage rug featuring muted shades of blue. I was looking for a piece of light blue furniture to bring out the soft blues from the rug and also add a pop of color to the room. Secondly, we recently eliminated a large dresser from our bedroom so that I can add a desk. Our home no longer has an office, so bringing a desk into my bedroom will help provide a quiet space to work. In order to make space for a desk, I’m replacing our current large dresser with two of these smaller blue linen chests.
I’m very much looking forward to having this peaceful space of my own – working from home parents, you know this is quite the luxury! I’ll be pulling inspiration from these coastal chic office finds and neutral office favorites to complete the space.
Next up, we hope to shop for a new mattress to fit this DIY seagrass canopy bed. It is not wide enough, as seen above. Serena & Lily has a large selection of mattresses to fit your needs as well.
The Perfect Light Blue Dresser
My search for the perfect light blue dresser led me straight to the Serena & Lily Driftway Chest. This gorgeous linen dresser checks off all of the boxes for our bedroom! The Parsons-style design makes it a classic piece that will forever be in style. I have always loved linen furniture and this isn’t just any old piece of linen furniture! The texture adds a light, simple touch to make it stand out and bring a bit of depth and character to any room. The driftway chest frame is made of both solid hardwood and engineered wood and then hand-wrapped in painted linen. The linen was then sanded down to give it a slightly weathered finish, which I absolutely love. My favorite feature of all is that they applied not just one, but five coats of matte lacquer on top to keep this beautiful light blue dresser looking amazing for years to come!
Coastal Blue Driftway Chest
As always, Serena & Lily went above and beyond when creating the driftway chest. The drawers are made of solid hardwood and maple veneer and feature lovely dovetail joinery for added durability. The light blue painted linen covers both the front and the back of the chest, which is something I really appreciate. I know how frustrating it can be to have to strategically hide the back of a piece of furniture because it is an eye sore. And I absolutely adore the solid brass ring pulls featuring an antiqued brass finish on this linen chest. As you probably have noticed, I love pops of brass in a neutral home and these ring pulls are the perfect added touch!
Light Blue Dresser in Our Home
For our master bedroom, we decided to go with two of these light blue dressers as nightstands on both sides of our seagrass woven bed. The size is perfect, as they allow for the extra storage we needed without overpowering the room. Not only do the linen chests pair well with our vintage rug, but they look excellent with our light blue pillows! I styled the dressers with my favorite DIY designer inspired lamp, some neutral vases, and an antique brass mirror, which pairs wonderfully with the dresser’s ring pulls.
Light Blue Furniture in Your Home
I truly love how these light blue dressers look in our bedroom, but what I love even more is knowing that if (ok, when!) I decide to rearrange things, they will look wonderful in other rooms of our home as well. If you have a guest room or a children’s room with two beds, the driftway chest would be the perfect piece of furniture to place between the two. You could also use it as a smaller blue dresser in a nursery or children’s room. Beyond bedrooms, I love the idea of using this linen chest as an alternative to an entryway console table.
How to Search for Light Blue Dressers
Finding a large nightstand is no easy task and it often requires thinking outside of the box. I searched for an extended time, looking for a large nightstand with no luck. Incorporating terms like chest and dresser while searching will help. You can also search for bachelor’s chest or children’s tall dresser. Often, these are the perfect size and can double as a large nightstand.
Tips for Caring for Linen Furniture
- Keep painted linen furniture out of direct sunlight. This will help minimize fading and preserve its beauty. Keep in mind that some mellowing over time is to be expected.
- Clean spills immediately with a soft, dry cloth. Immediate treatment will help prevent stains.
